Good Ole Hands
This is my most used tool. I find that they are multipurpose
and cheap to use. I've got 2!

Handheld
Shower
This is not a must, but it is great to have when you are wetting
and rinsing the hard to reach areas. I love to put the pulse
setting on my scalp for a massage (as well as to get the conditioner
rinsed well). I use this everyday.
|

Satin
I sleep in a satin scarf or a satin cap (depending on the style) every night. I prefer this to a satin pillowcase because it holds the style, especially twists.

Handheld
Mirror
I use this everyday to check the back and sides of my hair. I like this one because it's wide.

Brushes
I use the Bass 100% Boar Bristle Brush for my edges if I feel
like it. The Denman D3 is the best thing that has ever happen
to me! The girls on nappturality.com
were going on and on about it so, when I saw it in a little
shop in the British Virgin Islands for $8 I bought it. I have
since thrown away other brushes. With some conditioner in the
shower this thing clears through your hair like a hot knife
through butter. It collects all the hair in the brush and cleans
easily. Eventually you see less and less hair in your brush
which means more and more hair on your head! I LOVE THIS
BRUSH!!!! Click
here to see my old brushes.

Scarves
After starting a thread on nappturality.com
about scarf storage, this is what I came up with. I love scarves,
especially long ones. One lady says she uses an over-the-door
shoe holder for hers...great idea!

How
I Store This Stuff
I have 2 drawers for my hair stuff. I bought plastic baskets (3 for $1) from the Dollar store and they work great!

Conditioning
Cap
This is a very interesting concept...a metallic showercap renamed
a 'conditioning cap' and then priced higher. *HA*. I guess a
fool and their money will soon depart *sigh*. I've since converted
to the cheap disposable
ones. How to use this thing? Well, slather on your choice
of conditioner or oil or whatever concoction you've mixed up
that you think will do your hair good. Put metal shower cap
on your head and sit under dryer or stand in steamy shower for
a while (15ish minutes). Remove cap and rinse out.

Combs
I bought the comb coil comb specifically to do comb
coils years ago. The small end is perfect for it but I am
not talented enough to do these yet. The w-i-d-e toothed comb
is great for natural
hair. It's treated to keep anything from growing on your comb
The
travel comb came with it and is treated with the same stuff.
Always get combs with rounded ends so you don't cut your scalp
up. The pink one is just my old comb from years ago that I still
use and the rat-tailed comb is a must for parting natural hair
and doing rollersets.

Clips
for Styling
These are used mostly to hold hair out of the way. I don't wear these clips out of the house. I like having more than one color because I can use all the black as 'later' sections and then know all the white clips are the section I'm working on now.

Elastic
Headbands & Ribbons
I have all sorts of these, most with no metal on them. The ribbons pictured are both from pants....and one pair was my co-workers. I took it while she was still wearing them....don't ask. These are great for everything from holding back a puff to banding your hair.

Dryer
My trusty table top dryer by Conair. I use this for conditioning
and rollersets mostly. I really wanted a heavy sturdy one like
the one my mother got (and still uses) back in 1969 but they
just don't make em like they used to. This will do but I must
admit, it is flimsy. You can't sleep under it, you'll knock
it over...bother.

Picks
Would you believe I've had all these picks since my hair was
relaxed?....go figure. I used the detangler for detangling my
hair in the shower before I got my Denman brush. The small pick
is good for getting the finishing touches on the fro
to carry with me for touch-ups (you know, when someone pokes
their finger in your perfect fro
). The wooden one was a gift from a friend. His father does
wood working and made this. I used it the most to get deep into
the hair and get good even lift. It's perfect.

Bobby
Pins
Your basic black bobbypins on the left and your basic black
hairpins on the right. They come in several sizes and colors.
I like to have lots of the small and large sized black ones
on hand. They are extremely useful. Make sure you purchase the
kind with the coated end so they don't rip out your hair and
scratch your scalp.

Ponytail
Holders
Pictured is a yellow scrunchie, a turquise elastic w/ no metal on it (I'm thrown away all the ones with metal), a blue soft holder dealy (I buy these by the dozens) and black rubber bands (great at the ends, but use sparingly 'cause
they can pull your hair out).
 |

Tams
I bought the black tam from the hair shop and liked it so much
that I bought a couple more. They are great for 'bad hair days'
but I don't think they'll fit over my hair once it grows out.
Check out a style using
one.

Clips
for wearing
I have big clips, small clips, click clacks, and claws. It's all for when I'm wearing a style and want to dress it up.

Beads
Beads are great dangling from the end of a braid or twist. I use the black rubberbands above to hold them on.

Curlers,
Rollers & Rods
I was a serious curlerset girl before I started wearing my hair natural. I use the curler papers with the spongey ones when I must sleep in curlers. My favorite now are the rods on the right. I get a nice secure tight curl from these although they are not comfortable to sleep on (but what cylindrical plastic is????).

Triangular
Hair Net
I have a couple of these types of hairnets. I love them when
I need to tie my hair down while it is still wet or damp. Use
them on rollersets to sleep or under the dryer.

Wave
Caps
I barely use these anymore, but they were a staple when
my hair was short with brushwaves. My boyfriend has snatched
one already
 |

Scissors
I haven't used either of these scissors since I cut my relaxer, but I will use them to trim my ends. I used the one with the teeth to get a less blunt cut when I had a relaxer.

Fake
Flowers
This is my favorite styling option but I usually wear them to a wedding or to dinner. I get them from the dollar store, cut one or 2 off w/ a 4 inch stem, style my hair, the stick the flower in. Perfect!

Synthethic
Hair
This is "New Braid Hand Braided 100% Synthetic Fiber Micro Knot
Braid III” in color 2. No problems here, good ole plastic. I
used this when doing my crochet
braids.
 |

Applicator
Bottle
I bought these to use with any product that needs to get to
my scalp but I honestly haven't used them much.
 |

Headband
(Bander)
I made this bander to match a lariet, bracelet and earrings I made (yes I make jewelry) but since then it has been retired. The little combs pull my hair and that's not good. I may take it apart and reuse the beads.

Unused
stuff since relaxer is gone!
Look closely, you'll see curling irons, blow dryers, flat irons and all that....oh and a lint brush...ignore that *ha*.

Human
(?) Hair
This is "24 inch Zury brand Micro Yaky" human hair in a bag.
This is what I've used in my two bouts
with microbraids...once
in 1999 and once in
2002.
~edited September 5, 2003~ I've learned that Yaki hair can be human
hair AND YAK HAIR .
I am never, ever ever ever ever ever ever ever putting that
stuff in my hair again (ever ever ...poor
little yak ).
I've looked up articles and posted links for you. Search for
word "yak" using Edit > Find in your browser:
