thinking [hair] should only be "washed" only
when time to get a touchup |
|
feeling slimy or mushy [hair] when it's wet...sure
sign of being over processed |
|
not shampooing my hair for as long as possible
so that I could keep my permed hair looking "good" |
|
the smell of burnt hair and chemicals when I
got home and realizing the smell was me |
| wondering what that substance was oozing out of my scalp right after a relaxer. |
|
perpetually dirty combs (I don't miss the dirty combs one bit! ~ ini) |
|
the aroma of freshly "done" hair |
|
not wanting to wash my hair cause it looked so
much better when it was dirty |
|
that nasty brown color that my hair turned from
end to root |
|
walking around with smokey/grease-smelling hair
after a hard press |
|
having a dirty pillow, head scarf or collar from
the grease that was supposed to make my hair grow, but never
did |
| having hair that smelled like burnt grease for weeks at a time but being scared to wash it |
| waking up the morning after I received a relaxer and having my hair clump together. This was from the "juice" that was oozing out of my scabs. EWWWW! |
|
using tons of gel to slick back hair and make
it even straighter |
| not washing for 2 weeks to preserve my hairstyle |
My experience:
I was really bad w/ washing my hair. It just took
too much time to get my hair back to "straightness"
. I
would go months while in highschool and like 3 weeks max by
college. I had serious dandruff...which I thought was 'growing
dandruff' and
I would just make sure the outside of my hair 'looked' clean.
Once I started working I went to the stylist every 2 weeks.
My hair smelled, but I never realized how much until I wore
my hair natural. Now I can smell that smell on other women a
mile away: the sweet aroma of sweat and chemicals |
Lessons
Learned: I've learned that water is not the enemy...it
is the friend! I've learned that I can wash my hair every day
if I want to. I've learned that sweat and smoke are not good
smells on my head...matter-o-fact they are down right nasty.
I've learned that other people could smell my nasty hair just
like I can smell other womens hair
.
I've learned that shampooing is not as necessary as I thought
because the detergents in shampoo are strong and drying. I've
learned that conditioner is more important and it contains detergents
gentle enough to clean my hair. I've learned that I don't have 'growing dandruff' or dandruff at all . Lastly I've learned that wisdom really is the principle thing. |
